g'fathered in or not

i know this has been beat to death but i just left a verizon store and was told that i can grandfather in my unlimited data plan even if i don't update til after the tiered plans start. i was under the impression i had to update prior to the tiered plans or lose my unlimited status but the salesman swears no way no how will i lose my plan. i'm still not sure about it though

I'd upgrade now just to be safe, but from what I've read you have to already have unlimited prior to be grandfathered in

If you have the unlimited data plan you will be grandfathered and can keep it (indefinitely?) even through renewals and upgrades.
