Getting closer to the edge...

So I took a baby step and rooted my phone. I am interested in flashing my first ROM but have a few questions.

If I flash a ROM onto my Bionic and VZW releases an update, do I have to re-install the stock software or can I just leave it flashed with the new ROM?

Where is a good source to read about flashing a ROM before I do it for the first time?

Are there any situations where I brick a phone and totally cannot recover from it? Where can I read about that?

Sorry for the newbie questions but I want to be sure before I take the first step.

Also, grab the 902 xml for your PC just in case something gets messed up. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417116
This would wipe data, but there r ways to prevent if interested.
Also, when you flash a ROM, you will basically set up your phone like it was just purchased.

That way you wont lose data.
