Get rid of motoblur

I honestly don't get it... blur on the D2G when I got it was HORRIBLE.... this blur isn't all that back honestly.

but hey to each his own... I've got a couple of home screen replacements so I can always change it up myself.

So to my understanding, people root and install a rom to get rid of blur? but what is the difference between that method and just installing Launcher pro? I have used LP forever and have always kind of wondered if blur was still running in the background using up my most precious system resources. If that is the case, then it would stand to reason to replace it with a vanilla rom or whatever flavor you choose.

When you install a custom rom (in this case, installing a blur-less rom) you are changing the very os that is running on your phone. That means ALL the elements of blur (launcher, widgets, other Moto trickery) are removed and you are left with a "vanilla or stock" android experience, similar to the way google would give it to you with a Nexus device.

If you just install a launcher replacement, that launcher is only running over the top of blur. Blur is still using resources in the background in addition to the new launcher, thus depriving your phone of possible performance. So to answer your question, yes, blur is running ALL THE TIME behind LP.

+2

I use it on my D1, don't even have the stock gallery installed anymore.

I froze my stock gallery and all of a sudden I couldn't see my videos in Quicpic any more. Also, I use my gallery to play any animated gifs that I get in my text messaging. Quickpic for some reason wont play the animation through the text messaging. So.. I left the gallery alone!

Has anyone done this yet? Can I do it by rooting and deleting something?

I was just cheking my email on one of my accounts and it had a message in it that said, "Congratulations, you have successfully shared your Yahoo account on Motoblur." And it gave me the option of removing it. It opened Yahoo, I logged in and "removed" motoblur from my Yahoo account. I thought I was done with it until I read your message and the responses. So... Where does Motoblur actually reside?

Edit... Thanks for the explanations guys.

It's EVERYWHERE. I used TiBu and "froze" all of the "Authenticator" apps for services I don't use. That should prevent what you've seen with Yahoo (it is one of the "Authenticators" running behind the scenes).
