Get rid of "DROID" sound on boot

Once a root method becomes available you will be able to remove the startup sounds. On my Droid pro, the file that needed to be deleted was in system/media. This is also the location of the boot animation.

But the question is is root coming.

Moto has said they'll unlock all their phones in late 2011, but followed that release with "Where carriers will allow it"

VZW let's rooted phones on their system, but will they let Moto unlock their phones? Those are two separate things, one that worries me.

Anyone know how the remove the DROOOIIID without root?

I know with root on the OG I deleted low battery and DROID noises

I'll be extremely surprised if it never gets rooted. Moto doesn't necessarily have to unlock the bootloader in order for root to be obtained. Look at the Droid X, 2, Pro, etc. We'll just have to wait and see.

On the Droid it was the SD Card mounting sound setting. Does the Droid 3 have that setting?

The setting was removed and the sound disabled on the Droid via OTA update.

So are you saying that if you didn't remove it before that OTA update that you were stuck with it? I got my Droid about 3 weeks after it was released and I removed the Droid startup and the Droid notification sound that day. My Droid still has the notification sound settings, but I forget what settings were available 20 months ago.

No, the update for the Droid removed the entire SD card sound option and disabled it. I guess the option is back on the Droid 3.

I see where to turn it on and off... but nothin about changing the notification tone for SD card..

This doesn't work btw... if you uncheck the sd notification it still says "droid" at the start of boot... but it kills those two ringy dingy tones at the end of boot... that helps though ... I didn't like those either
