Ok, first off, i'm new here. so just as a base, i'm somewhat computer savy, but this phone is a whole new world to me. i'm just want to be able to plug my droid x into my laptop and drag and drop files between the two. mainly music, video pics..... and be able to charge my phone from my comp.

so i plugged my phone into my laptop and nothing happened. couldnt see the droid on "my computer" or anything. BTW, using XP pro. so i changed USB ports on my laptop and get it to start charging my droid, but still cant see it on the computer. i look online, download motoconnect 4.7, restart laptop. now it wont even charge the droid, i uninstall the motoconnect but still doesnt do anything when i hook up USB. the only thing that happens is when i disconnect USB, phone vibrates. so its obviously sensing its connected, but it wont do anything. i'm super confused and seriously stressing. these phones are expensive and i dont want to just use it for calling / txting.

Can yall please help? sorry if this has been covered already, i've been searching the net all day, mostly on this site and couldnt find anything straight forward enough to help me

When you plug the Droid in, does the Notification Bar at the top display USB? If so, drag the Notification Bar down and tap the "USB Connection" setting displayed. This should bring up a USB Settings menu...in here you should see various "modes" to use the device while connected via USB. To drag and drop files, I have found that using either PC Mode or USB Mass Storage Mode both allow me to drag and drop files.

Please respond back if this helped...:)

Also make sure you are using the original micro USB cable that came with the phone. I have a few USB with the micro USB adapters and they will charge but the do not activate the USB pull down on the droidX with Win 7 or Mac OS 10.

thanks yall.... i found it its a problem on my laptop end. it is plug and play on my desktop. only issue is, the file format from the droid to the PC is not compatible. any advice?
