Generic charger

I recently purchased a generic charger for my droid.
The first time I used it for only a couple of hrs. and it worked fine. Tried it again leaving it on over night and the phone went beserk. It called my home phone twice at 3:00 in the morning and sent 7-8 text messages to the last two people I had talked to the day before. The messages were all jibberish, numbers, symbols and letters. "does your phone make calls and text on its own, "Droid Does" What a laugh !!!!

Wow that is very odd. You sure it is because of the charger? I have heard stories about generic chargers messing up phones a bit, but never heard anything like this! You rooted and been toying around with ROMs too? I wonder what this could be.

I have a generic wall and car charger and they both work fine on my phone.

Some generic chargers and even some usb cables do this. I've bought three generic chargers and one works and the other two make my droid go crazy.

It's a known issue with some chargers.

I have the exact same problem. I bought 3 generic chargers off ebay, and they all do the same thing. As soon as I plug in the phone, everything goes crazy...all kinds of patterns start appearing on the lock screen, and if it's unlocked, things start clicking and scrolling all by themselves. I unplugged right away because I was afraid it would damage the phone. Plugging in a quality wall charger or a USB-computer doesn't do any of this.
My droid is stock, not rooted.

This likely happens because some of the cheap generic chargers do not regulate to the correct voltage of 5.0 +/- 0.25 volts. That is the USB standard and what the phones are designed to operate on from an external source.
