You can get a sim card for free at verizon and if you are activating your own line with data service (or any line with data service) then you are good to go... But, if it is a line without data service, then you would have to get a data plan.

If I got a 4G phone, it would be to replace my D3. I have unlimited data so I was wondering if I could activate it and keep my unlimited. It would be a while before I did that, but I like to know stuff like this in advance so I'm informed about it. So, you're saying that I can buy a 4G phone from a 3rd party, go to VZW and ask for a 4G SIM card which is free, and activate the phone with my number, and I will be golden?
