Format a MicroSD card?

So I am trying to add a microSD card to my Note 2 which I pulled from my old Droid Bionic. My Note 2 isn't recognizing the card and wants me to "Mount sd card". It is also grayed out and not giving me any other option. I went to Google and found this on Samsung's website. It is leading me in a wrong direction. My Note 2 is Stock and as far as I know never been rooted (CLN replacement)

Do you have a microsd usb adapter than can be plugged into your computer? You can format it on your computer and then pop it in your Note2
