These days you don't have to use the hardware and capacitive buttons that came with your device. There are several other alternatives for navigating your device. Paranoid Android's Pie control has to be one of the most popular ways, but there is a new alternative. Who doesn't like choice? "Floating Software Keys" is an app that adds floating nav buttons to your homescreen. Keys include Back, Home, and menu keys. These buttons will float over any currently running app so you can always quickly navigate your phone. You can also customize long presses of any button to open up your favorite apps quickly. Check out the source link below for more info on this neat app.
