Just thought I would post my small victory here:
My girlfriend's D3 keyboard backlight went out and only her number keys wouldn't work. I checked for warranty, and wouldn't you know, it expired 2 days prior. Since it was out of warranty, I figured I would take a stab at repairing it myself if it was something obvious.
To make a long story short, one of the connections was only partially connected, pushed it back in carefully, re-assembled, and all is well...backlight and all.
