but ringtones work fine? and other phone sounds?

edit: nevermind... sounds like that's the case based on that last part of that last post...

That's definitely not normal - I hate to suggest this, but unless you have some app that's messing with notification sounds, or you temp-rooted (permanent root isn't available yet) and messed with the notification sounds, I'm not sure what else to suggest... but try a factory reset... :huh:

I guess one more thing you could check - does it change anything if you have the headphones in? Or does it still act the same?

I haven't rooted anything... I will try with headphones now. Also, can I power down the phone and reboot?

oh, yeah definitely try a reboot... seems obvious, but that could do it as it "reloads" stuff upon reboot

blah, I hate to suggest it, but a factory reset might be in the cards here...

OK, I haven't really set much up yet... So how do I do that?

settings>SD & Phone storage > factory data reset

if you haven't setup much yet, I would go ahead and check off "erase all data" and "erase sd card" to just start with a completely clean slate...

your phone will be out of pocket for, probably, about 10 minutes once you start that

It should either do it for your or prompt you once you go into the Market the first time. Glad it worked!
