Files needed on SD card in order to boot?

So I've been updating with Liquid roms for about a year now and have been loving every new release. However about a week ago every time I try to look at my gallery it says that my sd card is unmounted or not present....so I thought that upgrading to LGB 2.3 would fix the problem...which it didn't. Everything got installed fine and after I used TIBU and got my google account synced up and everything, I changed the cpu to max out at 1100 mhz but now my phone freezes every time I boot up. So now I feel the only thing to fix this problem is to just completely reformat my SD card. What files are completely necessary in order to still boot into cockworkmod recovery? PLESE HELP, I spent 4 hours tinkering around with this last night and I would really like to be able to use my phone today.

Come on anyone? If I format my sd card so there isn't anything on it, will I still be able to start my phone into recovery????

I am pretty sure the recovery files are stored on internal memory so your SD card doesn't matter. I am able to boot into Clockwork without an SD Card. I am not 100% on that though.

The problem does not sound SD card related my friend. I think your issue is that your ROM is trying to rev your CPU while trying to access all the data to load the phone. I reccomend a data wipe.

I've done the wipedata/factory reset and everything goes fine until the end and it says that it failed to format sd/ext or something among those lines. I finally got the phone to start after flashing the rom 4 or 5 times (wiping data each time of course) but about an hour or 2 ago it froze then started boot looping so I restored to lgb 1.92, and it still won't let me look at my pictures or use my camera. Should I unroot to factory settings and then re-root and then flash it again? This is making me go bonkers...any help is appreciated
