Fascinate Galaxy S Reception Issues?

I had the dx before my fascinate and my girlfriend had the fascinate. I was tired of my dx messing up all the time so i was going to trade , but before I switched I did do some reception tests between the two phones.

I downloaded speedtest on both the dx and fascinate and even though the fascinate consistantly had 2 bars while the x had full bars the fascinate would score higher everytime. I did this in 7 different location and the outcome was the same. I believe there is a YouTube video demonstrating the galaxy s phones ability to receive signals very well.

So I also believe this to be a software issue.

Update: Fascinate reception issues

Well, two days left in my 30 day evail window with Verizon. I've been to the very unhelpful V Store twice and on the phone with tech support many times. I can't get 3G a lot of time, my searches fail and of course my voice to text fails, WiFi still poor even near the router. Internet only seems to work for 3G so that is shoty at best and I live and travel in a strong V area. The phone support person managed to stop the locking up of the phone related to calls by removing the "Voice Privacy" option. Now I just don't get calls, I get a message that I've missed a call and have voicemail. I have no idea if another android phone will work better which is a shame anyway since I love the screen on this thing and as a rule have always had good luck with Samsung products. They have no idea when 2.2 might be coming or if it will correct the issues.

In the end, what is the point of paying for this phone if it can't get a reliable call or use the 'smart features' with any reasonable consistency.

I've been with Verizon for over 7 years, I have 5 lines (Family plan) but now I am considering picking up and going to another provider all together, and only have two days to decide! Argh!! They should offer a 'loaner' program of used/refurb phones for people to find one that meets their needs without being locked into one for two years!! Oh well..

Unfortunately I will be returning my fascinate today also. I love the screen, speed, size, feel and shape but I too have had reception issues and the deal breaker for me is the sidetone/reverb I get through the speaker when I speak. I have exchanged the phone once and this one still has the same problems and so does my brother's fascinate. I tried a friends captivate the other day and it did not have any sound issues or reception problems at the location we were at. I really really want to love this phone but at the end of the day it is a phone and it just doesn't meet the expectations of regular phone use, especially while driving and public places. I wonder if the speaker issue is realted to the reception issue!

Remember, it is not always the phone, it is sometimes the area tousled are in.

Right now I am at home, and I have 3/4 bars. Several places on my commute home, I have zero bars ( even in open areas). This is especially true if you traveled to back and forth between areas that are fully covered and those that are considered "extended coverage areas." Like I do.

And to the best of my knowledge, the Fascinate does not suffer from Death Grip problems like the iPhone...

I'm also only getting 2 bars at best, my d1 almost always had 5 in the same house... If I use z4 to root my phone is there a new baseband that will fix this issue?

I haven't had problems with dropped calls but I think my battery is dying quicker because the phone is always looking for reception.

Like most of you guys said, I only get about two bars, but my brother's dx has the same speed as my phone with full bars using speed test.

I've run speed tests and have results that are all over the place. Sometimes varying results from the same spot. I'm hoping that should 2.2 ever be released, that this will help correct this problem.

I was only getting 2 bars then I did the*228 thing now I get 3 or 4 I don't know if that will work for every one but it did for me.

I just updated the service (*228) and my reception dropped a bar don't suggest it.

Speed test app is available on the market by the website itself. Great way to tell if you are getting enough reception through megabits. Also its free!

I had to swap the Fascinate out for this reason. I never had reception problems at my home with my D1, but I was constantly dropping or missing calls with the Fascinate. I also use Pandora a lot on my commute to work and was always having problems keeping a steady data stream going. I finally got fed up with it (after swapping with another Fascinate in hopes of fixing the problem) and purchased a Droid Pro. I'm much happier now. Haven't dropped a call yet with the D Pro, and no problems streaming Pandora all the way to work. I hope Samsung is aware of the problem and a simple software fix can remedy it for you guys.

Yea its ridiculous:/ I can't use YouTube either or browse the web because of the reception..I read there was going to be an update soon (not froyo) but to fix the reception issue and other bugs, I'm going to wait on that and if they even lag on that update, I'm just going to have to go back to my droid2:(
