Poor reception issue

I've been having really bad reception issues lately in my apartment.
My original DROID is rooted, and I am wondering if there is any harm taking it into a VZW store to see if the phone is indeed having reception issues and maybe exchanging (doubt they will do that) it.

You could flash a different baseband, I believe their are four all together and all bring different reception results to the table, just find the one that works best for you

Have you updated your phone with the *228 lately?
If you do take your phone to VZW, in its current state there is a good change they will see it has been rooted. Unless your asking for a replacement they may try to help you.
