External Antenna

I was surprised when I got my Droid and took the battery cover off to realize that there was a little plug in there for an external coax antenna (doesn't seem like any of the reviews mentioned it...)

Does anybody know more about it? Of the five radios (GPS, bluetooth, wifi, 3G, 1X), which is it for, or is it for multiple?

As unnecessary as it may be, it would be pretty badass to mod a big, 80's style antenna on top of this thing to get twice the wifi reception or so...

Lol reminds me of my bosses car, he's a ham radio freak. Has many huge antennas coming out.

Well ok, maybe not some big-ass thing permanently for now, but it could at least be used for an alternative battery cover that has a bigger gps antenna, for example.

I wonder if an external antenna to boost the verizon signal could be plugged in. I've been looking for a way to boost the signal when I'm in in area with a weak CDMA signal.

Thanks for the info. Now I need to find someone who sells the proper adapter. I called Wilson Antenna, but, they didn't even know it had an external jack.

According to Phonescoop it's an external antenna jack for data/voice (1x/3G) Both use the same baseband so you'd only need one antenna jack.

Sweet! I have a few different antennas laying around. It's time to see if one of them will fit -- and what kind of increased reception/throughput I get.
