Extended Coverage

Hey maybe I can get some answers here. I am in Puerto Rico traveling. However, I cant get any mobile data connection when verizon says I should be able to. Any idea what gives? My nifty nexus feels morelike a paperweight down here.

Puerto Rico must be on a GSM signal. Your Nexus is CDMA/LTE only.

GDSOAB!!! is that why my girlfriends fascinate works?
It pisses me off royally. No gps, no maps, calls cost 70 cents a minute and texts are free somehow. the unlock screen says extended coverage. Ive even turned on allow roaming data which shouldnt cost anything since PR is supposed to be covered. I cant even effin call verizon. I dial *611 and i get an earfull of spanish! damn im frustrated! although the plentiful booze and unreal scenary help...just a little
