eris top screen contact/history list remove???

hey!! brand new here.well actually my name is raymond not brand new...but!! i just got two new eris's and im trying to like a phone that so fr i dont.(but i really want to because of the size and feel)..my question is , can you remove/hide the contact/history list that appears at the top of the screen in the phone/calling mode...it clutters the screen imo......
