I hesitate to blame the Droid for this latest odd event, as I have been complaining quite a lot about software and interface issues... but I think the settings in my email account (not gmail) changed to an incorrect port asignment. I suddenly stopped receiving emails on the Droid, although email were coming in on my PC. I finally checked the account settings and there was an changed port setting - which I am quite certain I did nothing to cause.
