DroidForums Gallery suggestions

I don't know if this is the best place to ask, but I have a couple of questions about the Gallery.

Is it possible to change the dimensions of the gallery's thumbnails to the same aspect ratio of the Droid wallpapers? Current thumbnails are 120x78, an odd choice, especially considering the Droid's wallpapers are nearly square at 960x854.

I'm also wondering how do we go about adding new categories to the list. I recently added some pattern wallpapers which are not seemless tiles. That seems to be the most accurate description as they were made from seemless tiles, however the artist chose to add shading for effect and they are proportioned for a non-tiled environment.

Also, I would like to start uploading some more comic book art wallpapers, similar to marvel.com and dc.com stuff, which I feel does not match the nearest description of Anime/Cartoons (TV animation) wallpaper. There is some comic art and fantasy art in there as well, both of which I'd like to see in a separate category if possible. I have a lot of Boris Vallejo and similar images that I could upload if it didn't have to sit next to anime. bleh

Any concerns? Who's the boss?

Okay I am going to take a stab at answering some of your questions.

1.) to my knowledge I am not aware of any way to change the dimensions of the thumbnails. When you choose a picture in your gallery and you want to set it as a background you will have the option to resize the image for the background.

2.) As your pictures are uploaded to your sd card the phone automatically assigns a "category" to it in your gallery based on where the image came from. I believe if you mount your phone to the computer you can go into your sd card and move them and possibly change or create new categories. I do not believe there is a way to change or create new categories from your phone. You will have to mount to do so.

Hope this helps you.

No problem. I would suggest you contact an administrator for that question then as I really do not think we have any control over the Droidforum gallery.

As far as the thumbnails -- the purpose of the thumbnail is to browse the images/galleries as quickly as possible. Having the full size image shown would not be ideal -- however, if you click on the thumbnail then the proper sized image shows up.

We also don't want to be too hasty on cropping the images for that size as this site covers multiple phones and many different screen resolutions... so we try to keep them pretty fullsize and then the user can crop down later :)

Thanks for you quick reply!

I'm suggesting the thumbnails be changed from 120x78 to a full 120x120 or closer to a 1:1 aspect ratio. That way the thumbnails would show the full image and it would be easier to tell what is there. 120x78 (1.54:1) is closer to widescreen ratio whereas the droid wallpaper is about 1.12:1.

Thanks for the new category. Any chance it could be changed to Comic & Fantasy art or Comic/Fantasy art to include artwork like Boris Vallejo?

Thanks!

For demonstration, 2 thumbnails of same image:

I have a few wallpapers I uploaded that are patterned wallpapers. They aren't seemless tiles though. Do we need a pattern category or similar?

I'm not really interested in changing the thumbnail aspect ratio. At the end of the day we could get really specific and add a ton of categories but for the most part the categories that are there I think work great. I'm sure you can find an existing category to put those thumbnails in.
