Droid X2 or X for a low tech mom?

Insidious

Active Member
So I convinced my mom to get a smartphone and I REFUSE to let her even consider the iPhone. She doesn't like the $200 price tag (which is ironic looking at the stuff she buys) and she's more welcome to the droid X's $150 price tag. So what im wondering is, is for a mom who isn't into all of the hacking, and specifications craze, is and X still a worthy option? (Im hoping she'll switch with me, I hate the droid 2 xD)

Yes, the Droid X is a very solid phone. The DX2 is better on a technical scale, but in practice, a lot of users have been reporting stability trouble unless they implement a number of 'hacks'. I recommend an X to a non-technical user at this point... Once Motorola fixes some of the stability issues in the DX2's stock config, then I'll start recommending it over the X.

If she's not very tech savvy, and has no interest customizing her phone then I WOULD consider the iPhone. Don't choose against the iPhone because of what you prefer, its about whats best for her and the iPhone's simplicity sounds like a good fit. I would take her to the verizon store and let her play with different devices to decide which she likes best.

I would get the original x. It has less issues that the x2.

But if she's a mom, you might want the iPhone.

Sadly no one mentioned the WP7 phone. For the non techie person that wants something simple that Just works, I think it the best option. Before going with the X, have a look with her at the WP7 phones at your carrier and see what she thinks.

I have both and I use the WP7 as my phone and the X is not activated.

This thread is proof that android users are real people... we recommend our arch-enemy's products when they are the right fit for the user.

I dare you to try and find an iPhone-only user who recommends android phones.

LOL wildcard, very true!
She is actually leaning more towards the Droid X! :)

And if she's anything like my mom, for whom I would serve as "unpaid tech support" on a far too frequent basis, do like I did and recommend the iPhone ;)

I would recommend the iphone. It has less bugs and issues than the X. The hardware is better quality, even though the OS is too simplistic for my tastes.

Very true.
The iPhone just....works.
There is hardly anything you can do to it except for the basic browse/call/message/game.

I could never use one, as i'd get bored to death. However it might be the better phone for her.

On the other hand, if she does alot of calling, she should get the X.
It has significantly better call quality, and also cancels background noise well.

Its a hard decision though.
And you can't go wrong either way,

Woohoo she got the X2! She does alot of calling so the 3 noise cancelling microphones will be nice! Its a learning curve for her but she's growing on it fairly quickly. Me on the other hand, I love that thing! Tegra 2 is unbelievable! My DROID2 is almost unusable now! XD
