Droid X SMS Text Read Notif

I've seen this batted around and conversations disintegrate and I'd really like to know if there is an answer. My previous Verizon phone indicated when a text message was READ by the recipient. How can I get the Droid X, on Verizon, to do that? (I have a friend who is severely ill and it helps to know if texts are being checked regularly.) Thx.

well I know handcent sms has an option to request read reports tho ive never used it myself

Thx. I had Handcent on my phone for about 10 mins and was concerned about it being monitored and who was getting the info. (Makes you wonder when the description of the program is written in English that practically doesn't make sense.) I'll have to take another look at it!
