droid x os won't boot properly

i removed the facebook account from my accounts which took awhile and froze my phone. so i removed the battery to get it to restart. now when i boot up it loads, but none of the off screen buttons work (ie home button, power button, back, etc.) It loads the interface but i cannot use any of the apps/utilities. all of my widgets will not load except for the weather widget. Ive reset the phone about 5-7 times by removing the battery and the same thing happens. also my wallpaper has changed to black.

any ideas on what the issue is and how i can fix it?
