I have an upgrade coming, my son is getting the iphone but I'm not sure what I want to do. The reason I am thinking about it is the battery

I had the Droid x with extended bat. Never had issues and the net was as fast as any other smartphone on Verizon's network.

You won't get any votes for the iPhone here this is the DROID forum.

My X destroys the iPhone, and if my battery doesn't make it all day, I can swap batteries.
Can't do that on an iPhone.
My X has memory cards that I can change... can't do that on an iPhone.

You are right on about changing out batteries you cannot do that with the iphone I never really wanted to change

I have the X and my G/F has the Iphone so i have had some time to play around with both. The iphone is simpler to use and there is less stuff you can mess up, but with that the X has much more capability (but you can screw stuff up). For most people either one will be fine. If your a tekkie geek definately go with the X, if you are tekkie illiterate, Go with the Iphone.
The two biggest differences I have found with them are as follows.

The iphone Definately has a superior camera. I think it may be the software portion that makes it good. I can recreate a picture of about the same quality on my X, but it takes an aftermarket app (vignette) and alot of messing around with settings based on what light conditions i'm in etc etc etc. (while i'm messing around, my g/f is running around snapping pictures of everything with her iphone on auto waiting for me.)

but one thing I can do that she cant is USB tethering for free. I downloaded PDAnet, plug my X into the laptop and i'm away surfing the internet with my x as the source while she is surfing on her Iphone. Overall i'm extremely happy with the X and would get it again over the Iphone, but she would probably get the Iphone over the X. So really it's just personal preferences. other than those 2, there was no major dealbreakers either way for me. they can do pretty much the same thing overall. if one does not do it out of the box, you can get an app for it.

if you're gonna go iphone, at least wait until they announce the next one. no sense buying last years model now (and being stuck with it for 2 years), when a new one will probably be out this summer.

IMHO ... the iPhone is a girls toy .. i have an ipod .. what do i need an iphone for .. besides.. Technoman pretty much pointed out the major qualities of the X over the iphone ..

If you're going to get an iPhone... don't.

But really, these arguements are all over. Just get what you want. Apple and the iPhone are going to start dying down. Heck, android is now the top OS, then blackberry, then iPhone. And more people plan on buying an android phone this year over the iphone. but that's just everyone else. You have to look at the phones. Honestly, yes, there are more apps for the iPhone, and I feel like it has good support from developers for these apps. That's the only thing I want about the iPhone. Otherwise it's droid for sure, and the apps in the android market are catching up.

apps isnt everything. I only have like 70 but they are always the same ones that i use. Most of them are games but Apple is full of crap apps. People are going to end up switching to create exclusively for the Android OS. iOS is gonna go down and Android is going reign king. But i like the freedom i have with the Android OS, I think iOS as a bike on training wheels.

Well I'll go ahead and be one of the biased iPhone 4 owners to say "Get the iPhone, it's better than any phone out there!!". To be honest I think it's really about personal preference. There's technically not a whole lot of difference between the two, I personally love my iPhone but have never seen or been on a Droid X so I can't really compare.

Can you change the user agent in the browser on the iPhone?
Can you run Flash video/games/apps?
Can you download a file from a link on a web site?
Can you change out the battery?
Can you avoid dropped calls without a bumper or case?
Can you drop the phone without it shattering?
Can you use standard charging cables?
Can you avoid installing iTunes on your computer?
Can you install apps not approved by Apple?
Can you get a bigger screen?

iDon't think so.
