Droid X - Help getting Cyanogenmod 7/Gingerbread

Hey everyone! The topic pretty much explains it all. I havent flashed a rom on my droid X in about 5 months so I came here in hopes of getting some help to either put Gingerbread onto my Droid X or, if possible, CM7 onto my Droid X. I wanted to come to you guys first before I started tinkering with things and end up with a bricked phone. Anyway, if someone could assist me in flashing Gingerbread of CM7 onto my phone your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Oh yeah! and I'd also like to know which rom do you guys think I should put on my phone? Gingerbread or CM7? I'm currently running Rubix Fokused I believe, an older version from 5 or more months ago and its starting to get quite buggy and driving me a little crazy. Aswell as my phone has become quite sluggish while running it. Thank you guys!

Gingerbread isn't a ROM, its the 2.3 version ofvthe android OS, if you made a back up of your stock rooted phone before flashing Rubix, you should only need to restore the back up, then take the OTA update and that will put you on gingerbread

Then you will have to reroot using Pete's Motorola one click method, just Google it, then get the the free version of ROM toolbox in the market and download revnumbers CM4DX on GB, then reboot into CWM recovery as you did when flashing Rubicon, do all needed wipes (data, cache, dalvik) then flash the CM7

If you don't have a backup of stock rooted .340, you might as well SBF to .602 and not bother with the hassle of being on Froyo and then taking the OTA to Gingerbread. Then like clueless said just re root, download the newest RevNumbers nightly and flash it in CWM

Be sure to wipe data/cache/dalvik

Im sorry, Im not quite sure what SBF means, along with a couple other things. Is their any way you could give me a version for dummies how to go about putting CM7 on their. I'd appreciate it because flashing roms sounds a little different from when I put Rubix on my phone last year. Im backing everything up on titanium backup right now. After I flash CM7 I can just redownload Titanium and restore all of my contacts and programs correct? Thank you!:biggrin:

EDIT: I must say even Titanium has completely changed it seems. I remember being able to back up individual programs. Does Titanium automatically back up all programs and settings for you now and then auto restores these programs and systems settings for you after you flash? Thanks!

you're gonna want to go to CM4DX GB. To do this, follow these steps:

1. SBF your phone to .602 GB (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-rooted-help/100038-complete-droid-x-sbf-flashing-guide.html)
2. Root using Pete's Motorola One Click ([Root X] D3 1-click Root Method - Works on GB.602 and GB.605)
3. Install ROM Manager and ROM Toolbox from the market
4. Flash Clockwork Recovery from ROM Manager
5. Download the latest RevNumbers CM7 nightly from ROM Toolbox
6. Reboot into Clockwork Recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik, flash CM7
7. Reboot your phone, you should now be running CM7 on the Gingerbread kernel

To backup/restore all apps with Titanium Backup:
1. Open the app
2. Hit the menu button
3. Hit "batch"
4. Run "backup all user apps" to backup or "restore all missing apps with data" to restore them

Thank you so much for your assitance! That guide is perfect and exactly what I needed. Just somthing small and simple! Thanks for the link to the SBF install, thats where I was mostly confused on things. Im going to wait and do all the flashing around 3:00 AM eastern time tonight when I get back home and have wireless internet and don't have to use the wireless tether on my phone incase something goes wrong I'll be able to find help without being hopeless not having my phone. Thanks so much for your help guys! Ill let you know how it turns out.

Also! Quick last minute question for you guys on here. Are their any roms that you guys would recommend other than CM7? Anyone with previous experience with CM7 and their take on the ROM's advice would be greatly appreciated, and if you tried CM7 and chose to flash another ROM why you didn't like CM7 for your Droid X. Thanks again so much!

I've tried pretty much every ROM available for the Droid X on the GB kernel and I keep coming back to CM7. There are so many options for customization and everything just works. I also used to really like MIUI, it's still my second choice and I definitely recommend it. Also great are Shuji, ApeX, VorteX and Liberty 3

Well myself and Leftspin are flash junkies we flash everything

I personally like CM7, shuji 2.2 or 2.5, simply stunning SSX,

Liberty3 is ok liquid ehh, ICX is good but waiting for sensei mod to update it

In my opinion the froyo kernel works better than GB for CM7. I say this because I tether alot, and it seems to be slower on the GB kernel. The official builds are based off the froyo kernel. Also from my experience the Droid X is unbrickable, so I wouldn't be so concerned about that.

there are pros and cons to each kernel I guess, depending on what you use it for. I like the GB kernel because it's faster and a bit more stable and I get far better battery life but I rarely use tethering so I can't really comment on which one is faster. I do seem get better 3G speeds on the GB kernel though (probably because of the baseband, but it also might just be in my head).

I agree that the X is unbrickable though. The worst thing you can do to it is get stuck in a bootloop but then all you have to do is flash an SBF

i must be able to tell the future as i just got a bootloop and i guess the culprit was changing the carrier text

AH! I forgot, When you SBF your phone, you have to reconnect the number correct? All you need to do is dial a certain number to verizon and they will just automatically reconnect it correct? The only reason I ask is because I decided to put my phone through my mothers family plan and I would rather not deal with having to call her and get her to call verizon and do any kind of verification or anything along those lines. Such as provide verizon with her social, etc etc. But if all I have to do is dial a number to reach a machine through verizon and press a few buttons to get my phone connected, no problem. But if I have to call verizon, than call my mother and explain the situation and have her call and than have her deal with them and than have them call me or my mother call me and blah blah blah. I feel I didnt explain that very well but I hope you guys got the jist of what Im trying to say. I just don't want to have to deal with calling her and explaining to her she needs to call verizon every time I change something on my phone would give me a migraine as shes not very tech savvy so I have to explain things several times and she still doesnt quite understand things and turns things into a headache of a process. Just wondering what hoops verizon makes you jump through to reconnect your phone after you SBF it. Thanks!
