Droid X Custom Boot Logo I'll create

understood mostly, thanks for the lesson. you know I've been looking around and haven't found any body that has the original boot m as a zip for replacement but alot are asking. it'd be cool if someone could upload that individually without having to go through tranquility to get it.

Replace boot logo with original M update.zip

Compiled by me.

it's fun and rewarding. remember, there are no answers, only choices (for your droid x)

my phone is close to dead so continue this later thanks for the info and help. I will let you know how my renaming goes.

You need to be rooted for this to work.

To do this you need several tools. First you need Ninjamorph as it makes the process very simple. Download that from the app market.

You also need a hex editor. I recommend:

Frhed

First pass the checks on Ninjamorph to get it to function.

Then, select

  1. New Project
  2. Browse to /system
  3. Browse to /framework
  4. Select framework-res.apk
  5. It will extract it to your sdcard
Connect the DX to your computer
The extracted file is in /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace
The specific file you'll be editing is eri.xml
Full path is /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace/res/xml/eri.xml

Put that file onto your computer.

Open the file with Frhed

Browse to line "01b3"

Change the name from "Verizon Wireless" (or whatever it was set to by your theme) to whatever you want.

Be sure you do not use over or under 16 characters!! Fill with spaces if you must.

Put the eri.xml file back onto your sdcard.

Open up Ninjamorph again

Click:

  1. Existing Project
  2. framework-resapk
  3. Browse to /res
  4. Browse to /xml
  5. Select eri.xml
It will ask what to replace it with. Select the edited eri.xml file you put onto your sdcard.

Confirm the replace and keep confirming until it stops prompting. Then you need to reboot your phone.

Love it. Last time I tried this I had a paperweight. Lol. Your version worked flawlessly! Thanks

One thing it did differently is as soon as I clicked existing project- framework- replace(didnt ask what files.to replace)it started prompting right away. After confirming, it auto rebooted but eveything is running fine and changes are in place. Thanks again!

huh, is it possible you edited the eri.xml file right from your sdcard instead of moving it to your computer first? that would do it.

I put it on my desktop and drug it back to the sd card after editing. Who knows? Lol

Can you make background solid black and dragon glow green, or yellow, or blue? Or all 3 if no one else is being a bug. Green is priority to me.

Thanx

My Droid X was on line "01b9" but in the right pane was still item 24

Change the name from "Verizon Wireless" (or whatever it was set to by your theme) to whatever you want.

Worked great and now it stares at me by name. The odd thing was it set my wallpaper back to factory. no big deal, but odd. so for those weak of heart don't worry if it happens to you you'll be fine
