Droid - The Camera in your pocket!

Cuskit where @ the shore are you?

I'm in the Vineland area between the two shores (Ocean & Bay)
SnoDrtRider,

I live in Monmouth County - my shop is three minutes from the Manasquan Inlet. Nice weather finds me jumping on my Cannondale Super Vee at lunch break and just minutes later I'm climbing the rocks of the North Jetty that guards the mouth of the Inlet. A good hour and twenty minute ride north of you...

I used to race motocross - we had a track down your way. Millville, on the Cumberland County Fairgrounds. The track was on the infield. Are you old enough to remember that one? I won the State Championship there for the Open Class three years running.

No such thing as cell phones back in the day.. :) mikey

Yeah Mikey... I remember... I always wanted to race but mom decided it was too dangerous so I was stuck bouncing off the trees in the woods... If she only knew!
The fairgrounds track has been resurrected... there was a race (hare scramble) there this past weekend. Northeast Offroad Championship Series is a Harescramble and Pitbike Championship series that promotes Sportsmanship, family fun with great competition for all level and ages of riders. NEOC is like ECEA but a fairly new organization. My club (Tri-County Sportsmen Tri-County Sportsmens Motorcycle Club) is an ECEA club. The wife and I were just out in the woods yesterday with the club cutting trail for our enduro (Greenbriar)

An old pic of one of my woods bikes...

Are you on MTBNJ? I'm guessing you must ride Allaire on occasion too. No jetty rocks there, but you have miles of fast single track!

My wife and daughter @ Wake Forest University. That's Wait Chapel on the left and my wife and daughter walking away on the right. An impulse pic with my Droid. (not to brag - well maybe a tad) My daughter is on the Dean's list there. Pre-Med. Takes after her mom.

driving in to work today i passed an uprooted tree - we've been blasted here on the jersey shore the last couple of days with heavy rains, flooding and very high winds. Here's a shot using my droid "always with me camera" on the trip in to work this morning. Gotta love the high quality shots it takes! :) mike

It was fun to use while we went out at the last minute. I did not even carry a camera with me and just used the Droid for quick shots which it works out good. I also shoot a DSLR, and for what I need, the Droid does good work.

Big thing so many seem to forget is the one simple fact! It is a phone!
if you want a perfect working camera then go buy one.
I myself am very pleased in most situations when using the droid for camera
I use mine all the time for various pics and 90% of the time get a great photo
havnt used exp digital camera but once since i got droid
Indoors is ok pics better with good lighting. if you zoom way in on pics then you notice grainy
but what the hey, i dont look at pics zoomed in, i look at them normal.....lol
outdoors is perfect to me, very nice photos, just moved and took bunch of pics using droid and sent them back to family up north and parents cant believe i took them with droid
So bottom line its a phone camera so take it for that and haters need to live with it
or go buy a reg camera and quit *****ing
just my 2cents...........

Actually i just wished mine worked in low light at all period. Yes it DOES suck. The flash goes off and then it takes the picture a full second later. The camera is great is good light, its a joke in any low light.
This thread will soon be swarmed with the "droid camera sucks" crowd that migrates to every picture thread on these forums and mentions the few terms they learned in their high school photography classes and how the droid camera does nothing their SLR does.

P.S. Love the shots.

Great photos everyone. While low-light shots could be better and shutter lag can be annoying I too think the Droid has a very serviceable camera. I don't think the shutter lag is any worse than most entry level point and shoots either.

As for the noise in pics, this most likely is there because Motorola decided not to apply an overly agressive noise reduction algorithm to pics which would have lowered apparent noise at the expense of detail.

The flash goes off as a "fill" to illuminate the background.

I just tested my camera again after upgrading to 2.1 via cyanogen mod last night and it seems to take better pics than it did with 2.0.1. They don't seem to be as dark as they were. Is the camera app in 2.1 better or just my imagination?

I'm an avid amateur photographer as well and agree with most others on this thread that the Droid's camera is good for those quick shots during the day and well lit places. I have actually sat down and tried to work out the best combinations of settings for low light and night photographs and like others have said, it's really quite bad. Overall though, for what it does it does quite well.

as a serious photographer, I am more impressed with the video capabilities than the still photo capabilities.

YouTube - 20100307HG Dune Road at Yardarm.mov

What exactly is this video? I'm not sure if I should be saddened or going "Awwwww"

I volunteer for a foundation that rescues and rehabs sick and injured marine mammals and sea turtles. This was a gray seal pup that I went to evaluate. He was fine and eventually went back in the water and swam away. The Droid has been a great tool for me as i can get photos video and GPS info, send everything back to "HQ" and consult with a biologist and assess the animal's health and decide whether or not we are going to take it in for a physical.

What did you edit or process the video with to get it to ".mov"?
Look exceptionally good!
