Droid Razr

Long story, short...Got ripped off when buying a Razr HD from Craigslist. It won't read a SIM. I had it all set up via my Wi-Fi connection with Apps, etc, but as a last resort to make sure there wasn't something I could do to get it going, I went ahead an did a factory reset. I'm not an expert on these phones and now I am back at a setup screen and after selecting English the phone is once again looking for a SIM which I have tried and it still won't read. I think I'm pretty much S.O.L, but thought I would check to see if there is anything I can do to at least get it back to the previous state where I could at least use it as an MP3, reader, etc. Don't think I can, but thought I would check with the experts on these forums.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

It may be that the phone has a bad esn (phone was stolen, still on contract to another line, etc). When that's the case, the phone is locked and can not be activated on an account. You can call the carrier (verizon or whoever), give them the esn/imei # and they will let you know if it's good or not.

The other possibility is that the SIM is not good. You can pick those up for free from Verizon.

Hello, I appreciate the feedback, but though I didn't check out the phone as closely as I should I did check the ESN on line and it was good. I also took it to the Verizon store the next day and tried both my SIM (out of a Droid4) and a new one from Verizon--same result...wouldn't read the SIM. Tried the factory reset as a last resort. Now wondering if there is any way to get it back to a state where at least I could use it as an MP3 player....reader, etc.?? Anyone??
