The story? About it being given to nominees at the 2012 Oscars? That's true (well, it was given to "select nominees and presenters"). But it wasn't only give to them. A few were given out for a contest Motorola had around the time the Oscars were held as well. And I'm sure there were other giveaways either to the public or to employees. Many celebrities donate much of what they're given in those ridiculous gift baskets to charity in order to raise money, so it's possible this one made its way from an Oscar nominee to the seller somehow. But I'd say it's more likely that this one was won in a contest or came from a Motorola employee or something. Either way, there aren't many of them around, and the press the phone got was for it being given to the Oscar nominees. I think the seller is safe this time from our wrath unlike another seller.

That said, there's no way I'd ever pay above retail (or the going rate on the resale market for that matter) just for a different color, regardless of if it was a limited edition that might have come from Rooney Mara's gift bag. I prefer my phones to be black and grey anyway.

I believed the nominees at the 2012 Oscars got the phone... I don't believe that is where this phone came from.

If you want a different color buy a case or a skin...

Personally I wouldn't pay extra for the phone even if it was signed by one of my fav celebrities. But some people have money to burn.

Don't get me wrong, I have a Razr and am converting it to a Maxx with the battery kit.

Its not just for Oscar Nominees, they also gave it out for VZ workers. My friend told me about it weeks ago its limited made but he could have gotten it also

The version for Verizon employees is different than the one they gave out to Oscar Nominees and presenters. The Oscar version had a red casing. The Verizon employee version still has a grey/black casing, but has red accents and limited edition numbering. They've recently started arriving for Verizon employees who ordered one according to Droid-Life.

That's not to say that no Verizon employees ended up with the Oscar version, but the "red" Verizon employee version is different than the red Oscar version.
