Droid RAZR M - not receiving SMS text notification sounds

My phone no longer has sound notifications for SMS text messages. No settings have changed, nor have any apps been installed, since this feature last worked correctly.

• Notification volume is up
• I have tried multiple sound files, including some stock
• "Notifications" is checked under the settings menu under the text app
• I have rebooted the phone

Help!

I've read a few other threads regarding this, but none of them have actually included a solution, aside from a few aftermarket apps that I'd rather avoid, if possible.

Edit: I've just realized that I'm also not getting any notifications on the top bar for SMS texts. I am getting the texts, though, and I will get notifications through the circles app, and at the bottom of the home screen.

Nevermind, apparently Google Hangouts somehow hijacked my SMS text notifications and...did nothing with them? After uninstalling Hangouts, everything is back to normal. Leaving this here in case anyone else searches for a similar issue.

This same thing happened to me. Had to go and clear that SMS setting in the google hangout app. Glad I found this before trying the 'factory reset' option.
