Droid firmware update hassle

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I'm new so be nice. I got my droid about a month and a half ago. I'm pretty happy with it overall but I'm in somewhat of a delima.
Once the official ota of froyo came out I manually installed it, but now I'm hearing it got pulled. I'm having some bugs with it myself. I'm really concidering rooting my phone so I don't have to deal with this nonsence, and overclocking seems quite convincing.so in short what would be easier rooting my phone? Or patching my current firmware with an update(if there is one?) Thanks!

My phone will just become extremely slow and laggy at times, batery life isn't as long. Market doesn't download apps correctly. Most of the time rebooting my phone will fix that, but I shouldn't have to be doing that
