Droid backgrounds...can i really not use a full picture?

I get you have to resize the picture to the 900x whatever but I cant change it while its on the phone. I just want to set the picture i've taken as my background. Not a third of it or half but the whole thing. Please let me know how to re-size a photo as I would like to use all of one of my pictures as my wallpaper. Thanks.

Then ensure the ratio of the dimensions of your image match those of the wallpaper size (not the screen size) of your device. Then adjust the crop box to include the entire image.

For example, on my Droid wallpapers need to be 960x854. If I have a square image or a rectangular image that doesn't have the same ratio as 960x854 then I'll have to crop.
