droid 2 root questions

cycopathic

New Member
so ive been highly contemplating rooting my phone...but i have some questions.

does it change the UI at all?
does it wipe away apps that i have? (for example..i have handcent sms, and a few messages i do not want to loose...will i loose them?)
do i have to reinstall any purchased apps?
is there anything you have to do to "upkeep" a rooted phone vs unrooted?

thats all i can think of right now.

thanks in advance for the answers!

Rooting your phone is only giving you super user permissions to your phones files. I will not change your UI it wont dlete apps or anything like that. Why do you want to root?

rooting your phone will essentially do nothing but give you administrative permissions. Its what you do after you root that will affect you.

Edit: too slow.

tappin and a talkin

why i want to root is because i see a lot of people talking about it, and from the sound of it..there is a speed increase, if im reading right? and all the different layouts. ive become a fan

No. No speed increase. Custom romz and overclocking is what "speeds" the phone up. Root will do none of that.

Do some research on the benefits of rooting. Rooting it just to do it makes no sense.

Correct! Root just gives you the ABILITY to overclock, install custom ROMs, etc. They go hand in hand.
What you'll need:
1) Root access
2) Droid2 Bootstrapper by Koush
3) Droid Overclock by Jrummy
*Some people use ROM Manager to dl'd ROMs but, I haven't had much luck with it so I just dl'd over 3G or WiFi.
We'd (me at least) would be glad to walk you through all of this if you'd like..?

so what does "overclock" actually mean?

Someone else is gonna have to answer that until I get to a computer. Hard to explain through text typing. Hahahaha.
