Droid 2 pop up advertising

Does anyone know how to get rid of the pop up ads that google automatically throws on your screen. Can they be shut off?

The only ads I see are during some apps/games that I run. I never see ads on my home screens. Is that what you are referring to?

Maybe one of your apps is causing this?
Did you see it start happening recently? Installed anything right before it started?
