Droid 2 Global Unlocked, insert sim now?

Hi guys! I recently got a Droid 2 Global official unlock code from Verizon Global Support, as I will be traveling to the UK in the spring.

I already have a UK sim card from O2, and was wondering if I could put in the UK sim while I'm still in the US to test the code out. I don't want to bring my phone overseas, put the code in and not have it work.
