Droid 2 Global keyboard backlight

I have a new D2G just under 1 month old. I don't think the physical keyboard ever lit up. Before bringing it into Verizon, are there any settings I should check? I've pulled the battery, enabled and disabled auto brightness a couple of times but nothing seems to change. The soft keys for menu, home, back & search all light up fine at the bottom of the phone.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I went to the local Verizon store last night after work and had a very helpful guy work with me. He tried a few things and then got me a replacement and dealt with swapping everything.

I was most impressed with how well the new phone recovered what appears to be all the apps. All the settings and personalization required redoing but the contacts and apps seemed to come back perfectly.

And now my keyboard backlight works!
