Droid 2 and Windows 2000 server

I'm trying to set up corporate sync and/or touchdown to access my exchange e-mail. I keep getting errors. I do not have SSL, and have said "no" to that on the touchdown setup. Neither can connect with my server, which is Windows 2000. My IT guy is waiting until January, when a new Windows 2010 server package is coming out. Is there any way I can connect with my office e-mail until then?

I use an app called improved email, it is free on the market. I was never able to sync with our exchange server with the default email app.

Still having problems

I downloaded Improved e-mail. Still doesn't work. Perhaps it is because of the way I am entering information.
myofficedomainname\myloginname -domain/username
(my office email password)-password
mail.myofficedomainname.com/exchange-server (also tried it with my server numerical id)

I do not use a secure SSL connection, so I did not check that box.
It says, "Setup could not finish, "Unable to open connection to server."
