I`m looking to get a Droid phone(older model) just to stream internet radio (Pandora ,tunein etc..) i`m on looking for used first generation Droid phone I seen them for ~$60 that just about what i want to spend for this project
i have no intention of activating the phone ,just use it for WiFi access using my home network hooked up to a pair of amplified speakers
Any suggestions?

Also +1 on swappa

I did this for my son with my old Droid 2, I installed GrooveIP and Google Voice, now he can make calls and send texts on wifi

You can also use an app called Network, or a few other apps, that can be used to turn the cdma radio off for an improvement in battery life. On my Incredible it tripled my battery life by doing so because I live in a low reception area.
It still allows Bluetooth and wifi, just turns off the phone radio.

A Rezound phone was used for this TapaTalk post

Couldn't you just put the phone in airplane mode and then turn wifi on. That would shut the radio off and you would only be using wifi. I have done this on a few DROID X's and it works just fine.

I think the reason he asks for Wifi only is so he wouldn't be have to activate the phone. So guys that are recommending apps, he doesn't want phone service on it.

You can still download apps with the phone not being activated. Just sign in a gmail account or flash the apps from an SD card.

Neither the App Market or Amazon APP require an activated phone; they use your account information. My OG Droid is setup in airplane mode with WiFi on. I have no problems with downloading and installing new apps or updating existing apps.

I have not tried Groove IP, but I use Skype with its $2.99/month plan for telephone service to US numbers.
