I recently upgraded my phone to 2.1 manually with the boot-into-recovery method. Is this the same thing as the OTA? Or do I have to downgrade to 2.0.1 to get the OTA?
i manually updated to the official 2.1 and im not rooted..
if you manually update to 2.1 your not root and its the same thing as the OTA update.. no need to downgrade and get the OTA.. extra work for the same result.
Yup .... roms change things like the look and feel of the OS. For example many people have changed notification bars but also it can change icons and allow for overclocking. To install a rom you have to have root access though.
OP right now there is no way to access the root, nor can you go back to 2.0.1. I don't know why you would want to unless it was to root but until somebody roots 2.1 you're stuck. And it's exactly the same as the OTA.
Well thats what i'm looking for. I did the manual update to 2.1, but didn't root to do it. I was unaware I would be unable to root with 2.1. Is there a way to go back to the older version? When i try to root, i get a can't open cache/recovery/command warning in the boot screen, then when i install the update.zip, i get another error, that says signature not verified. No one seems to have an answer to this, i've searched multiple threads and the question just gets avoided. Did 2.1 stop the ability to root? I really want to root my phone!
Edit: Got it. Had to downgrade to 2.0.1 with RSDLite then root. no problems.
