Does the lack of Hands Free operation bother anyone?

Does this mean I have to buy a BlueAnt? I just bought a Jawbone2. That is a Blueant Q1? I wonder where you can get that?
I downloaded a program called Voice Dialer HF. I put a shortcut to the voice dial on my home screen. I put a short cut to enable BT on the home screen.

When I don my headset, I turn on the BT with ONE stroke (Beautiful Widget BT).
I mount the droid on my dash and plug in the charger (so my screen stays lit).
When I need to make a call, I press the Microphone button (already set default to Voice Dialer HF) and then it speaks to me just like on my old phone did and just like you mentioned before. It even asks me Home, Mobile, Work etc. The moment I say YES, it places the call and switches to my Headset. The microphone on the Droid is sensitive enough that it can pick up what I'm saying without trouble. The only trouble I DO HAVE is when the kids are arguing or the radio is on. Then it can not discern me from the background noise.

So I can't tap the headset button to activate the microphone (on the phone or head set), but its still a single keystroke to Activate & End the call.

I wish it was like my old phone, but it's a small adjustment for having a droid.

I had a great real world test yesterday of the combo of my BlueAnt Q1, Voice Dialer HF and Button Shortcut.

I was driving my diesel dually truck on a rough road (think noisy inteior) with my Droid in my Verizon Shell/Holster still clipped to my belt and with a heavy coat on over it, I reached down and pressed the camera button (phone was not on standby yet).. I heard Voice Dialer ask me for a command in my Q1, I said Call xxxx Mobile, it confirmed my exact request, I said yes and it dialed the number I asked for on the first try.

Keep in mind that the Verizon Shell/Holster keeps the Droid facing into the holster and against my clothing, and it still heard me perfectly.

The lack of bluetooth hands free dialing is about the only thing i don't like about the phone. If it worked like my Razr or Moto Q9m i would be very happy.

The only time I use BT is in the car and it has two 500-number phonebooks with all my numbers (WAY not filled). I can press a button on the steering wheel and either speak or touch a button on the center screen in the car.

So, no, it doesn't bother me, but I can see how others would be bothered. Perhaps an update will fix that.

Okay since I have never been able to voice dial with a bluetooth and get the person I wanted whats the big deal voice dialing is useless for the most part

My Blue Ant Q1 has arrived. I'm in the process of charging it. After charging I'll need to update the firmware, which will be challenging as I'm working with a Mac. My mac has windows too but sometimes picking up a new device trying to use windows can be challenging. If all else fails I'll use my old PC.

As soon as I can I'll let you know what it does (or probably doesn't) do.

Tested Q1....it works with Droid but.....

OK I have tested the Q1. It does indeed allow you to call hands free without having to touch your phone but if you have a lot of contacts, and I know most of you do it's kind of limiting. You only have 8 contacts you can load into it. So far I found the best way to do it is when you have an incoming call you press and hold the volume key and a voice comes on and ask you what tag you want to give it. Speed dial 1 up to 8.

For me personally, that will work. For the business person, I can't see how it could possibly help.

Sound is very crisp and clear and apparently my voice was heard easily in the test calls I made.

The lack of hands free bothers me a lot. I'm to the point in life where I need glasses to see anything up close (about as far as my arms can reach). I hate trying to scroll though a list while I'm driving.
I haven't had great luck with hands free on my last phone, but it did work sometimes. I don't know how people in California and other states with hands free laws get by with this phone.

I'm sure part of the problem is just a training issue for me. I spent last Saturday morning working with voice dial to see what works. I was feeling pretty good about it by the time I was done. When I moved from a chair inside the house to the truck the results weren't so good.

A friend just bought a new truck with integrated bluetooth. His contact list is downloaded into the trunks device and it works fine for him with the Driod.

I doubt a lawsuit will get anywhere. You have 30 days to exchange with Verizon, so I think they're off the hook. You signed an "all for us, nothing for you" agreement when you got the Droid, so I think Google is covered.

I like the Droid; it has some awesome features. I'm really hoping the shortcomings get worked out in software update.

this is key functionality that should have been included with the phone. Voice Dialer HF does not work with HTC android. For that matter it has become unavailable in the last couple of days, what is going on??

is there an app that works like Voice Dialer HF for the android 1.0, 1.5 available anywhere?

I personally think cell phones should be ban while driving. Too many times I almost got into an accident because the retard is too busy chit chatting instead of paying attention to the road. You can argue all you want about how much safer hands free devices are. Then again people that drink and drive, also claims they are more then capable of driving, while buzz or drunk.

hands free bluetooth upgrade

I have talked to a motorola corporate rep and he told me they are working on a resolution to this issue and it might be coming out in an update in the near future.
