Does running a rooted and or custom ROM, put any personal info at risk?

I ask this, because for the first time ever I found out from VZW that someone called into them twice and tried to order new phones on my account and knew my full name, my cell #, the last 4 of my SS#. They did not however know my password on my account which is VZWs added security. When asked the person got it wrong and hung up and then attempted to try and get them to change it. This freaked me out. Especially the last 4 of my SS#. Started getting me wondering about hacking my phone as I have for a year or two now and if it puts information at risk.

It sounds more like you have a trojan virus, rooting wouldn't do that, I suppose unless you went through a very unknown malicious root process that planted a virus, and I don't think a custom ROM would do that, again unless you used a very malicious ROM but I think that would get taken off the forum very quickly -unless you got it somewhere else.

Thanks. What I was thinking as well. Now shedding all mail and making sure my computers are clean.
