"Deactivated" droid x

so i posted earlier that i called vzw last night when my phone was misplaced and i was convinced it was stolen, i immediately made a claim and they sent the phone to be here tomorrow. the thing is, my buddy played a bad trick on me and put it somewhere else in the car and forgot to tell me til the next day. the lady i talked to on the phone was very helpful and told me that it was deactivated and couldnt be used. i turn it on to see if i could use wifi, and i can, but the service bars came up and i had full service and said i was receiving my emails, but no new emails showed up and didnt get any texts or voicemails. my bone to pick here is when the service bars show (i know its not the wireless emblem) does that mean that if it was to be stolen then it could be used to make calls and make texts? that infuriates me.

also, when its flagged as stolen does the database only pick it up when an attempt to reactivate is made or is it when any sort of data (including wifi) is being processed.

thanks for the help!!

Most cellphones show bars if they get a signal. They don't care if they are activated or not. That's just a mater of assigning a number and account. After all, how would it get activated if it couldn't get a signal.

The only way to tell if it could make a call after being deactivated is to try and and make a call. Just don't try 911. Cell phones are supposed to be able to do that activated or not.

The best thing to do is to call and let a representative know you found your phone and return the one (or refuse the package) that they are sending you - if you keep both then that would constitute insurance fraud -

What's been already said is correct. Even if it was stolen and someone tried to activate it with verizon, the esn isn't going to be clean on their end so they wont activate it. You can still call them and tell them you found it. They'll clear the esn for you. Just don't call them right away. Wait a while and say that the phone just popped up.
