Am I missing something, or is there no way, short of downloading a custom widget, to display the current date on the home screen?

I noticed that the "Notifications" section of the home screen contains the date, but the "Notifications" section of the home screen is not always visible, and disappears as soon as you are done viewing the notifications.

I'm sorry, but does your imply mean that the only way to accomplish this is by use of a widget, and, the name of the widget is Droid Army Recruit?

If you want a permanent display then you need a widget. However, if you just want to be able to see the date as needed all you have to do is touch the notification bar at the top and it will show the date there.

Also, date is shown on the lock screen.
