Data Plan Required.. The Answer is YES

My "new every 2" contract is up and I have been looking at the Droid, when I look at phones that are compatible with my plan the Droid does come up.

I'm on America Choice ll Family plan with 500 minutes and no data other than Mobile Web which is just a basic net access service for simple web viewing.

Since I don't have a true data plan the Droid should not have been one of my new phone choices.

Are you using the VZW website to look at the DROID? If so then select to buy it and go thru the steps to get it. The website will walk you thru it and let you know if you need to change your data package. Just go thru the steps, you WON'T actually have commit to buying until the last screen.

I must have done that at least 10 ten times for three weeks cause I just couldn't make up mind. lol

Yup, your right I went through the entire process and it did tell me I had to select a data plan.

If you don't get the data plan with the Droid, you're an idiot... this thing never stops sending and receiving data... My mother works for Verizon, and she called me the other day laughing about a customer she helped refusing the data plan when he got the Droid, and coming back a few weeks later with a bill over 700 dollars. The $30 unlimited plan is like an all you can eat buffet, as opposed to an ala carte menu...

I also used to work for VZW and know the system very well. It is impossible to add a Droid without a data package. Even if I ever wanted to activate a smartphone or Blackberry when I worked for VZW, it wouldn't have happened for any device introduced after November 15, 2008.

Well well well, fancy seeing you here :)

Thanks for all the help back on the Crackberry forums.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question already.

The $45 plan is for corporate users right?

Similar to the BIS / BES options available for the BlackBerry phones on the VZW network?

Hey no problem. I was Vulcan500Rider over there, but I traded it in for the 1600 back in July. I just looked and see you're listing the Storm still....get the Droid my friend, you won't regret it whatsoever!!!

droidforums is the best one out there. A lot of former Storm users are here with their new Droids, and I haven't read one person who said they're unhappy with their Droid and going back to the Storm. PM me if you have any questions about the Droid if you want.

You'll want the $29.99 plan. To be honest, since I left VZW in April I don't know this answer 100% sure, but I can text message a VZW rep very quickly, but I don't see any reason why someone would get the $44.99 data plan, or if one for that price even exists for the Corporate user.

Yes, I am using the $29 plan with my company exchange server and it works fine.

Yup, just ordered the Droid tonight, should be shipped tomorrow :icon_ banana:

The Storm was nice (for me, I was a smartphone newbie) so now I'm looking to move on up :)

I'm really glad to hear you're going Droid. Other than BB Messenger, I miss nothing at all about my Storm, or Blackberry at all. This is the phone I thought the Storm would be last year. Remember, ask me anything about the Droid in PM or read the forums, you found the best droid one around.
