Data Package

OK, I know this is a crazy question on a site like this, but will the DINC work without a data package? I have had smart phones for the last few years and just made a change at work and want to downgrade my phone to save some money. I want to keep my DINC to use as a phone but get rid of the data package so I'm not spending so much. Is it possible or do I need to power up one of my old phones?

Negative -- Verizon requires a data plan on all smartphones.
