D2G activation and GB OTA issues

So I have a friend's D2G here, and I am trying to fix it. I sbf'd per the thread here, and everything is working EXCEPT the phone will not activate. It makes the call, butthe voice says the phone could not be activated. Any ideas?

Second, and this might be tied to ^, the phone is not getting the GB OTA update. In fact, when I go to the settings -> about phone menu, the 'system updates' option is greyed out.

Speaking of SBF, which version did you use, and did you do it with the phone booted into the SBF loader (not the actual OS)?

I used the one listed in the sticky in this forum, applying it using the same directions via RSD lite.
