CyanogenMod set itself apart from other roms in the early stages by releasing new builds on a nightly basis. These builds included, bug fixes, new features, and other performance enhancements. The only issues with the nightly builds is that one fix often breaks something else. These nightly builds have never been the most stable.
Cyanogen started releasing stable builds on a pretty normal basis. This morphed into M builds which were released monthly. They were still beta, but were deemed stable enough to be used as a daily driver. The M builds are now what CyanogenMod calls Snapshot builds. Snapshots provide the most stable experience you can possibly have from team CM prior to a final build being released.
The latest Snapshot build of CM 12.1 is now rolling out to devices. This build includes November security updates. The latest snapshot builds are available for some Galaxy devices, Moto E/G/X, some droid devices, nexus 7, HTC One M7 and M8, and the Yureka YU. This will be available for many more devices soon.
