Custom SMS (Text Messaging) "Ring Tone"?

I have a Motorola Razr Maxx with ICS and am looking for a way to set the text message system such that known contacts can have custom (or no) sounds applied when a text message is received. I don't seem to be able to do this in the native app (as I can for the phone). Does anyone have any recommendations for this and/or ideas?

I just upgraded from an old version of android to jellybean, but as far as I can tell there is no way to do this in the native app. I have used handcent in the past, you can set individual text alerts in that app.
