Craigslist - this a scam?

Actually I'm sure it's a scam, I just don't get how it works...

You get a message that says, "Hey I want your thing for my son/daughter/brother/whomever, but they live/work/study overseas. I'm willing to send you the money via paypal, and extra for shipping. If you can send me your paypal email, I'll get it to you asap."

What I don't understand is how they can do anything with just your paypal email...

They have a way of using your PayPal email to prices it as a charge to you as if you are the one buying something.

They wait until they get a shipping confirmation and then withdrawal the funds from your paypal. Then you don't have your item and you will more than likely be on the hook for the shipping also. Craigslist has a disclaimer to only deal with locals. In this case it is let the seller beware.

This.

They also have a way where it's wired to a bank account with "temporary" money in it. They'll take out the money as soon as you ship the goods and all the info given through paypal is fake.

When on Craigslist, buy in person. When buying in person, bring a buddy or a well populated area in daylight. Avoid meeting at night, gets kinda sketchy

Thanks for the info. I'm real experienced with Craigslist, just never knew how this scam worked!

I hope none of us know how these scams work from experience (scammer or scammed). I heard about it on the news and then read around that's how it works.

I've bought and sold plenty of stuff on Craigslist. Always kept it local, in person, and used cash. Haven't had a problem yet. Like the others said if it doesn't seem right then it isn't.

I've only sold one thing using craigslist in person, and I told her to meet me in front of a bank so I could deposit the cash right away (and make sure the bills wer real :P).

Craig's List is evil. It's full of rip off artist, people cheating on their spouses, murderers. I see nothing good about Craig's List at all.

Bank cant or won't tell you if bills are real... The Banks often hand out counterfeit bills and if you walk out of bank with it it's on you.... If you notice something isn't right while you are there and say something they will check it and replace it.... They don't check every note that comes in.....

I love screwing with these scammer. I usually tell them that the item will cost them $1000 more than its worth and then I go about asking for location. Lagos is notorious for Craigslist scammer. So I find out how much it would be to send a package via UPS with all sorts of insurance and what not. It usually comes out to about $200 more for shipping.

Truthfully I have absolutely no idea what half of the shipping options are actually for but I click them all.

Then after they say that that is OK. I tell them that I will only accept a Certified US bank check and the item will be shipped after the check has cleared the bank. They usually do not respond after that. Lol
