Connecting Droid to computer

Thanks to a tip from a poster here, I'm finally able to connect my Droid to the computer and copy files. However, when I pull down the notifications menu I get "USB debugging connected" and below that "Select to disable USB debugging".
Can anyone tell me what that is and should I click on it?

It's needed for some apps such as tethering with PdaNet. Mine was turned off when purchased new. It shouldn't affect anything if not being used and you could turn it off with no adverse effects.

If you're connecting to your PC just to transfer files you can disable "usb debugging". It won't have any adverse affects.
