Confused about location settings for smart actions ...

You have to leave wifi on all the time?
I would think GPS would be a better option?

I feel the same way, but it seems that Smart Actions requires a Wifi connection to detemine location; it can't use GPS location (maybe due to battery life concerns).

Two options.
1 use Verizon's wifi auto on, should already be installed
2 manually turn on wifi when you need it.

As of now I do 2, 1 works but seems inconsistent

Honestly I think managing your phone's wifi, GPS, bluetooth, cell data manually is better than Smart Actions via toggle apps. It only takes a second to toggle depending on when/where you need it. If you go somewhere daily where you have a lot of actions then I would say Smart Actions pays off. But I would think it takes more battery to leave wifi on to trigger the Smart Actions no? I just turn wifi off manually via toggle when I leave my house. I was able to get toggle apps for all my on/off features that I need on the fly and manage them myself.

For what its worth, I think there could be a couple of power management apps in the market that utilize GPS position rather than Wifi location. What effect constantly pinging GPS location has on battery life is hard to say though... Maybe if it only looked at position once every 5 or 10 minutes instead of constant?

I leave WIFI on all the time. It doesn't have much effect on battery power as long as you have your WIFI sleep policy set to "turn off when the screen turns off" under WIFI advanced settings.

GPS on the other hand burns through battery power very quickly.

Just leave WIFI on but check your sleep policy by going to WIFI settings > menu > Advanced options

Download Llama... it estimates location based on cell tower signalling/strength/etc, so you can turn your WIFI off!!

Menu button bottom left of phone> Settings> wireless & networks> Wi-Fi settings> menu button bottom left on phone> advanced> Wi-Fi sleep plolicy

Then select one of the 3 options

Interesting... So a submenu has a submenu that's called from the menu button. I never used the menu button on any level of menus except the top level - tricky. This means there's likely even more submenus of submenus lurking around in this thing.

Thanks for the reply and clarification.
